A walk around Portlaoise is being organised by Laois Domestic Abuse service and local Gardaí in a bid to raise awareness about domestic abuse. The 16 days of activism walk will get underway from St Peter's & Paul's Church, Portlaoise on Wednesday, December 10.
"We at Laois Domestic Abuse Service to raise awareness about domestic abuse and Coercive Control are doing 16,000 steps in 16 days with the support of An Garda Síochana," said a spokesperson for the service.
"On the 10th of December, we will be hosting a local walk around Portlaoise meeting at the Parish Centre at 10am to walk together with the support of An Garda Síochana. We would like to invite our community members to all get involved. We will then end the walk with tea and coffee back in the parish centre. Every step counts.
"Step by step, we can build a safer community for women and children in Laois."
