Woodgrove housing estate in Portlaoise
Residents in a Portlaoise housing estate have done their best to repair a damaged wall, with Laois County Council now urged to step in.
Cllr Caroline Dwane Stanley has asked for assistance for the residents of Woodgrove Estate, and also Woodgrove Mews, both on the Ballyfin Road in Portlaoise. In the first estate, a wall and broken capping needs repair. In the Mews, a wall needs replastering.
She believes that the rainy weather caused the damage to the wall.
She tabled a motion to the February meeting of Portlaoise Municipal District.
"We had planned to do some works last year to one side of the wall but didn't get to it. this is on the main part, the capping has been removed. It is literally cleaved off it, it's very unusual.
"In the past we were talking about doing something at Woodgrove Mews. The plaster literally fell off with the wet weather. I suppose it wasn't done properly.
"I want to acknowledge that Woodgrove residents cleaned up the plaster, and tried to put the capping back. It needs a bit of work. We are also looking for laurels to be removed.
"I am happy that it will be done in quarter two. The whole road has improved with planting of pyracanthus and the new houses at Hepburn Court. Just this little area needs to be done," she said.

Cllr Tommy Mulligan seconded the motion.
"The left side entrance is looking very well. The debris was all cleared by residents. It won't be that big a job to pebble dash and cap it," he noted.
In reply, the Portlaoise MD officials say that the walls are on the list of works for repairs this year. Work will be carried out in April or May, when the weather has improved.
