IN PICTURES: Laois factory put up for sale for €12 million

The Leprino cheese plant closure was announced last year with the loss of 132 jobs for Portlaoise

The former Leprino factory in Laois has gone up for sale with a price tag of €12,000,000.  

The 13,132 Sq.m (141,346 sq.ft) modern factory building, which opened in 2021, is located on 5 Ha (12.36 Acres) of land at the National Enterprise Park off Junction 17 of the M7 in Portlaoise

The building is being sold by Colliers who say it “comprises a modern pharma grade facility, constructed in 2020 for food processing use. The main building measures approx. 13,132 Sq.m (141,346 sq.ft) on a gross external basis with additional mezzanine levels.” Read more below. Click NEXT for more images. 

The factory went into operation in 2021 producing mozzarella and string cheese for the European market. Leprino Foods announced its planned closure in August 2025 with the loss of 132 jobs for Laois.  They intended to move the plant's production to their existing sites in Northern Ireland and Wales.

The factory was capable of producing 45,000 tonnes of cheese a year.
