Portlaoise school issues 'child pornography' images warning

Portlaoise school issues 'child pornography' images warning

A Portlaoise secondary school has issued a warning on its website homepage in relation to child pornography.

Scoil Chriost Ri in Portlaoise shared the following statement on Thursday, February 22.

"It has come to our attention that there has been an increase in social media sites being set up including pictures of underage reproductive areas.

"We want to make parents fully aware that to have these pictures or to send them is a criminal offence.

"It is child pornography.

"Please talk to your children in relation to respect for their bodies and have open discussion with your children about this.
The Gardai have advised us to make parents and students aware that this is a criminal offence."

The Laois/Offaly Garda Crime Prevention Officer, Graham Kavanagh, said no specific incident was reported but endorsed the warning issued by the school.
