Laois mother and daughter open new hair salon in Portlaoise

A Laois mother and daughter duo with 50 years of combined experience have opened a new hair salon in Portlaoise.

Bernadette Rigney from Portlaoise has been hairdressing for 37 years and her daughter Meghan Quinlan has over 13 years of experience in the industry.

Now, they have combined their knowledge and opened their own business "Q & R Sublime" at the former Kay's Hair Salon at Lower Main Street, Portlaoise.

Bernadette has trained and worked in salons in Dublin and has upskilled over the years with Alfaparf and Vidal Sassoon.

"It’s exciting and I love the fact we are on Main Street, I think it is lovely and there is a lovely atmosphere. It’s exciting times.

"We bring different things to the table, Meghan would be into curly blow-drys and styles, I’m cutting and colour, cutting is the main thing I would cut hair day and night for men and women," Bernadette said.

Meghan said she is delighted the opportunity came up.

"It is something I always said I would do. The opportunity came up quickly, we saw the sign in the window early in January and a few days later we had met the landlord," she said.

The salon is now open from Tuesday to Saturday and offers treatments like Olaplex and Easilocks hair extensions.
