A new school could be on cards for a site beside a huge existing school in a busy Portlaoise area.
It was referenced at a Laois County Council meeting on Wednesday that there is a 'strong possibility' that a new school could be built beside The Holy Family School campus at Aughnaharna, Portlaoise.
It is understood that a new school is set to be built for the Dunamase College which is currently located Railway Street in the town centre.
The issue of road safety at the stretch of road between the Holy Family Schools and the Aghnaharna roundabout was discussed at the Portlaoise Municipal District meeting on Wednesday.
Cllr Noel Tuohy said traffic is either at a standstill in the area or else people are driving too fast and he asked that speed signal lights be installed in the area.
The council's Road Design section is to meet with councillors to examine what can be done about speed and traffic at the busy school road.
