Community Fun Day raises big money for lifesaving defibrillator in Laois estate
Hawthorn Drive in Portlaoise have thanked the community for their support and donations
A local housing estate in Portlaoise gathered recently for a brilliant Community Fun Day to raise money for a defibrillator in the estate.
The Portlaoise estate, Hawthorn Drive, held a Community Fun Day for its residents on Sunday, August 23.
There was a great turnout on the day, with the residents raising an impressive €700 which will go towards the purchase of a defibrillator for the estate.
There was something for everyone at the event, including children's sports, basketball, face-painting, a children's art station and music.
The event organisers also held a raffle which featured a variety of great prizes.
The new Neighbourhood Watch initiative was also launched at the Community Fun Day, with Community Gardaí in attendance to meet residents and provide information about the new initiative.
Residents also had the opportunity to have items such as phones, laptops and bicycles security-stamped free of charge.
The Hawthorn Drive committee have extended their thanks to “everyone who supported the raffle and contributed so generously to this very worthwhile community initiative.”
They have also thanked everyone who helped organise the day, donated prizes, provided refreshments and activities, and came along to support the event.
The committee said: “The success of the day is a wonderful reflection of the community spirit within Hawthorn Drive, and the committee hopes that it will become an annual event for residents to look forward to.
“A special thanks goes to all the residents who supported the fundraising effort. Raising over €700 brings the community one step closer to having a defibrillator available within the estate — an important addition that could potentially save a life.”
The Hawthorn Drive committee said they look forward to “building on this wonderful community spirit in the future.”
