Planning permission sought for over 40 new homes in Laois
This is the second large development proposed in this area of Portlaoise in recent months
A planning application has been submitted for the construction of 42 new homes in Portlaoise.
Ormonde Houses Limited has lodged plans with Laois County Council for the housing development on Colliers Lane in Kilminchy, Portaloise.
This is the third large housing development to be proposed in the area in recent months as Dargan Woods Devco Ltd applied for planning permission for an 88-home development back in March on a site south of this new proposed development for Colliers Lane.
Dargan Woods Devco Ltd also have a planning application in for 174 residential units on the Borris Road.
In addition to this, 195 homes are currently under construction to the west of the proposed development on the Dublin Road in Ballyroan. Marina Quarter Ltd was approved for planning permission for this large development in 2024.
Ormonde Houses Limited are seeking permission for 42 two-storey homes on the 1.2ha greenfield site.
These 42 homes include four four-bedroom semi-detached houses, 16 three-bedroom semi-detached houses, 15 three-bedroom terrace houses, six two-bedroom mid-terrace houses, and a three-bedroom semi-detached house.
The former Coughlan Fireplaces sales room and workshop is located on the site. Ormonde Houses Limited are looking to demolish this vacant premises as part of the application as well as some boundary walls.
The planning application also includes the construction of a new access road off Colliers Lane with new boundary walls for the two existing roadside dwellings immediately to the north and south of the proposed access road.
Associated roads and services such as an ESB sub-station and stormwater pipe along the public road are also listed in the application.
Laois County Council is due to make their decision on the planning application by July 16, 2026.
