Multi million euro housing plan for Portlaoise

Building Boom: Kildare senator says construction grants should rise in line with material costs

New plans have been submitted for a multi million euro housing development in Portlaoise.

Boderg Developments Limited had previously been granted permission to build 127 houses on a 4.492 hectare site at Foxburrow, Beladd.

The new application seeks to amend the number and types of houses permitted under a previously approved plan.

“The development will principally consist of an amendment to the number and dwelling mix of the partially constructed scheme as permitted under An Bord Pleanála Reference TA11.307420 as amended by Laois County Council,” the latest application states.

It is seeking to reduce the number of proposed houses from 127 to 121 and to make changes to the number of and type of houses at the site.

The scheme as proposed comprises 121 units comprising of 105  two-storey terraced, semi-detached and detached dwellings (2 No. 5-bedroom houses, 91 No. 4-bedroom houses, and 12 No. 3-bedroom houses); four single storey two bedroom dwellings (3 No. detached and 1 No. semi-detached); and 12  apartments provided in one three storey apartment building. It would have six one bedroom apartments and six two bedroom apartments; and all associated site works above and below ground.

Laois County Council is expected to make a decision on the project in early April.
