Sale of serviced house sites planned by Laois County Council
The return of once popular "serviced sites" at a low price is being considered by Laois County Council.
The sites which come with water and electricity connections readymade, would be sold to qualifying hopeful home builders, with discounts of up to €30,000.
The practice had been dropped for about a decade after the cost of land and services meant there was no saving to be passed on to buyers.
Now the council is asking the Laois public if they would be interested in buying serviced sites again, ahead of creating them. The public is asked to fill out an online survey. Link below story.
"Laois County Council is actively considering the development of serviced sites over the coming years at a number of locations in the county.
The buyers would have to be planning to live in the house they build, with first time buyers prioritised.
"These sites will be available at a discount on the market value. The level will depend on the servicing cost incurred by the local authority," the council states.
However the main towns in Laois have none of the 19 sites that are currently under consideration.
There are two in Doonane near Carlow, four in Derry Road, Durrow, nine in Castletown, four more in Ballacolla Road Durrow and four in Gleann na Glaise, Ballyroan.
Laois councillors have welcomed the return of the sites, which must all be minimum 0.25 acres in size. Fill out the survey here.
