New social homes have come onstream for people living in the fast growing Laois village of Ballylinan launched by the Minister for Housing, Darragh O’Brien.

The 21 new units developed by the North & East Housing Association (NEHA) at Doirin Alainn was provided in partnership with Laois County Council and comprises 14 three-bed semi-detached houses and 7 two-bed terraced houses delivered between 2020 and 2022.

John Cunniffe, Chairperson of NEHA, said that the new units were an important addition to the housing stock in Laois.

“These A rated homes are of high-quality design and build and our tenants will enjoy a safe, secure home in a beautiful community setting here in Ballylinan,” he said.

In the 14 years between the 2002 and 2016 census, the population of Ballylinan, which is not far from the Kildare boarder, increased nearly three-fold, from 430 people to 1,101 inhabitants.

Funding for the development was provided by Capital Advanced Leasing Facility (CALF) from the Department of Housing, Local Government and Heritage and loan finance was secured via the Housing Finance Agency. (HFA).

A statement from the housing body said this new development brings to 39 the number of homes North & East Housing has provided to tenants in the county in partnership with Laois County Council since 2020.

The developer and builder is JJ Wall of De Bhal Construction. The architect is Jason Redmond and Associates.

The NEHA is an Approved Housing Body which now manages a portfolio of homes across 11 local authority areas in the east of the country.
