Eightfold increase in apartments granted planning in Laois

113 apartments were granted planning permission in Laois in 2023

Laois saw an eightfold increase in the number of apartments granted planning permission last year, according to a new report from the Central Statistics Office (CSO).


The CSO figures reveal that 113 apartments were granted planning permission in the county in 2023 compared to just 13 in 2022. 


Across the board 492 planning applications were granted in Laois last year, a slight drop from 507 in 2022. 


There were 117 new home construction projects given the green light and 153 non-residential construction units. 


There were 117 extensions granted planning permission in Laois in 2023 and 45 applications got the go-ahead for alterations and conversions. 


The figures reveal that the Eastern and Midland Region (Dublin, Mid-East, and Midlands) accounted for 9,666 new houses, 49% of the total number of new houses granted planning permission in 2023.
