Residential property prices in Laois have jumped by 12% in the last 12 months, rising to an average price of €255,000.
That's according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO) latest Residential Property Price Index report for January 2024 released on Wednesday.
It shows that residential property prices in the county have increased from an average of €227,000 in January 2023 to €255,000 in January this year.
The report also shows a jump in property prices of homes in the Portlaoise Eircode area, rising by 11% since January 2023.
According to the CSO properties in the Portlaoise Eircode Area now stand at a median price of €250,000. This compares to an average of €224,000 12 months previous.
Nationally the Residential Property Price Index increased by 5.4% in the 12 months to January 2024, with prices in Dublin rising by 4.5% and prices outside Dublin up by 6.1%.
In January 2024, 3,621 dwelling purchases by households at market prices were filed with the Revenue Commissioners, down by 1.5% when compared with the 3,675 purchases in January 2023.
The report reveals that the national average price of a house purchased in the 12 months to January 2024 was €330,000.
The lowest median price was recorded in Leitrim at €165,000, while the highest median price was €620,000 in Dún Laoghaire-Rathdown.
