A total of 304 properties were sold in Laois between March and June this year, a 12% rise in sales compared to the same period in 2023.
That's according to an analysis by home valuation firm Geowox which reveals that nationally 12,212 units were sold between March and June, a 13.5% decline. The report shows there was a big difference between the price paid for second hand and new homes. In Laois the average transaction paid for a second hand home was €220,000 which jumped to €335,000 for a new house.
In June one of the most expensive properties in Laois was sold for €561,920 for a property at Mountoliver, Rathdowney followed by a property for €505,000 on the Ballinakill Road, Abbeyleix.
Meanwhile one of the cheapest properties in the county in June was Nutgtrove Cottage, Rosenallis which sold for €60,0000, according to the Residential Property Price Register.
The report from Geowox outlines that the median price of properties in Laois rose from €250,000 in the second quarter of 2023 to €290,000 in the second quarter of 2024.
Commenting on the findings Marco Giardina, Head of data analytics at Geowox, said: "The residential housing market in the Republic of Ireland in the second quarter of 2024 exhibited significant trends, characterised by a national median home price increase of 5.3% to €335,000.
"Dublin remained the priciest area with a median home price of €450,000, while Leitrim and Longford were the most affordable at €170,000.
"Urban areas experienced a notable 7.3% price growth, contrasted by the stability in rural areas. Apartments and houses saw price increases of 7.4% and 6.1%respectively, with energy-efficient homes commanding a premium price up to 28.6% over less efficient homes."
