New plans are in the process of being lodged with Laois County Council for the construction of new homes near one of Portlaoise's big secondary schools.

Cosmo Developments Rockview Ltd has informed the local authority of proposals for more housing along the Mountrath Road at Rockview.

The company, which is already active in the area, wants to construct six two-storey three-bed homes and five terraced split-level homes and two semi-detached houses.

There will be a entrance to the existing Rockview estate road, parking, boundary treatments, landscaped amenity space, local road and footpaths, and all associated site infrastructure works.

The work is being carried out in the estate where construction first began during the Celtic Tiger but came to a halt as a result of the property crash.

Laois County Council's planning files link the latest project to an application in from Breven Commercial Limited to complete the development of Rockview Estate, which was previously permitted and partially constructed under planning applications in 2005 and 2006.

The 2016 application said the development would consist of 141 two-storey terraced, semi-detached and detached dwellings.

Since then Cosmo Developments have made applications to planners about building Rockview which is located near Portlaoise College and Portlaoise Institute.

The latest application was deemed incomplete by planners in County Hall.
