House prices in Laois have risen by almost 10% in the 12 months to August, according to the Central Statistics Office (CSO).
The CSO figures released on Wednesday, October 16 show that last month the average price of a home in the county was €263,500.
This is up more than €20,000 since this time last year when the average house price in Laois stood at €241,000.
In the Portlaoise Eircode area house prices rose from €235,000 in August 2023 to €252,000 in August of this year.
Nationally residential property prices have risen by 10.1% in the 12 months. Prices are now 13.4% above the peak they reached in April 2007 before the market crashed during the financial crisis.
In Dublin, residential property prices saw an increase of 10.8%, while property prices outside Dublin were 9.6% higher in August 2024 when compared with a year earlier.
Outside of Dublin, the border region of Cavan, Donegal, Leitrim, Monaghan and Sligo saw the biggest increase in prices at 15%. Meanwhile the mid east area of Kildare, Louth, Meath and Wicklow experienced the the lowest growth at 8%.
