A Laois village that punches above its size for leisure amenities could be getting some new houses, if a planning application is approved.

An application has been lodged with Laois County Council to build a row of four dormer terraced house properties on an infill site in Ballinakill.

Fogarty Formworks is seeking permission to build four 2 bedroom dormer/storey and a half type dwellings, with a new site entrance, carparking and all associated works.

The 0.236 acre site is off the Castlecomer Road, between other two-storey houses in the village.

Each of the four homes would measure 94 sq metres, according to the application drawings, with living room, kitchen/dining, shower room and plant rooms on the ground floor, and 2 bedrooms on the first floor, one with an en-suite. They would have small individual back gardens with a shared parking area to the front with six parking spaces.

Wellness Centre approved permission in Ballinakill.

Ballinakill in south Laois has one of the only outdoor heated public pools in Ireland as well as a new playground, the OPW run Heywood Gardens with woodland walks and a fishing lake.

The application was lodged with Laois County Council on February 13. A decision is due in early April 2025.
