Five adjoining Laois housing estates with crumbling roads and footpaths, some built 30 years ago, are finally getting taken in charge by Laois County Council.

Broomville along with Broomville Close, Lawns, Court and Fielbrook Drive on the Dublin Road in Portlaoise, are all being taken on for repairs after a long delay caused by a small number of local objectors.

Cllr Caroline Dwane Stanley who had recently described sinking paths and subsiding roads in the estates, proposed approval at the March council meeting on Monday, March 31.

“It's great to see it gone over the line at last, some are nearly 30 years old, at last we can move ahead,” she said.
