A planning application has been lodged with Laois County Council to build 23 apartments and houses in Mountrath.

Applicants Patrick Percival and James Sex are seeking permission to build a range of housing, at the front of the Ard Erin housing estate, Dysartbeagh in Mountrath.

The estate was built in the 2000's just outside the town.

They wish to build seven one-bedroom apartments, two two-bedroom terrace houses, four two bedroom town houses, and finally nine three-bedroom terraced houses.

There would also be a bin bay, bike bay, roads, services and all associated site works as part of the property development.

Permission is also sought to demolish existing agricultural shed and associated site works.

The application was lodged on December 8 and a decision is due by mid February 2026.

The application says that "the site is located at the mount of a housing development build in the mid 00’s known as Ard Erin."

It includes drawings of the four types of homes, with one of each to be given to the council to be sold as Affordable Homes.

The application has since been sent back as incomplete, with a request for further information.
