Tributes paid following sad death of popular Laois man whose 'laugh could be heard from afar'

Jack Bergin passed away on Sunday

Tributes have been paid following the sad death of popular Laois man Jack Bergin, late of Gash Court, Castletown, Portlaoise.

Jack died peacefully on Sunday, March 16, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

He is predeceased by his beloved wife Elizabeth (Lil), parents James and Annie, brother Fintan, sisters Marie and Sheila.

Jack is deeply regretted by his loving family, son John, daughters Paula and Amanda, brothers Seamie, Michael, Peter and Murty, his 10 grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, sons in law Thomas and Richard, daughter in law Kathleen, sisters in law, brother in law, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Heartfelt condolences have been left on RIP.ie, from those who knew and fondly remembered Jack, with one mourner saying,

"Jack's laughter could be heard from afar. His quick wit was his speciality and always a joy to meet. May you laugh in peace with those gone before you Jack."

Another wrote,

"Our deepest sympathy to the Bergin family on the death of Jack. A gentleman in every way. So kind and hard working for the village he will be sadly missed. May Jack rest in peace."

While another wrote,

"Sincere sympathy to the Bergin family at this sad time your dad was a sound man always had time for a chat may he rest in peace."

Funeral Arrangements

Removal from his home Gash Court, Castletown to St. Edmund's Church, Castletown, today, Wednesday, evening prayers at 7.30pm. Funeral Mass Thursday morning at 11am in St. Edmund's Church, Castletown, followed by burial in Churchtown Cemetery, Castletown.

House Private on Wednesday.
