Laois locals mourn sad passing of Portlaoise GAA player's mother

There has been an outpour of condolences as Laois locals mourn the sad passing of a local mother.

Terri Maher (née Barry) formerly of Drimoleague, Cork before moving to Stradbally, Laois, has sadly passed away.

Terri passed away on July 22 peacefully after an illness bravely borne, surrounded by her loving family at Clonakilty Community Hospital.

Terri is the mother of Ricky Maher, senior footballer with Portlaoise GAA, and the local club have posted a touching tribute.

"Our thoughts and prayers are with our clubman and senior footballer Ricky Maher on the sad passing of his mam yesterday," the club said.

"Condolences also to all of Ricky’s family and extended family at this sad time. May Terri Rest in Eternal Peace."

Terri has been described as 'a gentle soul' and 'a lovely woman' by Laois locals.

Predeceased by her parents John and Mary, sister Stephanie and her beloved son Kenneth who she is now reunited with.

Terri will be forever loved and missed by her children Michael, Neil, Ciara, Richard and Emma. Deeply missed by her brother Martin, sister Marion, her fourteen cherished grandchildren and two great-grandchildren, extended family and her dearest friends Michael and Kathleen.

Lying in repose at Daly’s Funeral Home, Chapel Street, Drimoleague on Thursday (24th) from 7pm to 8pm followed by prayers. Requiem Mass on Friday (25th) at 12 noon in All Saints Church, Drimoleague (livestreamed on http://www.churchservices.tv/drimoleague) followed by cremation at The Island Crematorium, Ringaskiddy.

Terri’s family would like to extend our deepest gratitude to everyone at Bantry General Hospital and Clonakilty Community Hospital with special thanks to all in the Dóchas Unit for the incredible care and compassion shown during a difficult time. To the nurses and staff who provided palliative care, your kindness, professionalism and gentle presence made an immeasurable difference.
