Deaths in Laois - March 13, 2019

Late Billy Byrne - Rathdowney (retired garda)

The death took place on Wednesday, March 12 Billy Byrne, Dromleigh, Bantry formerly Ballydehob, Co Cork and Rathdowney, Co Laois peacefully after an illness bravely borne with great courage and dignity, in the presence of his loving family and in the dedicated care of the staff of Bantry General Hospital. 

Billy (retired An Garda Síochána) was the loving husband of Teresa (née Hazel), dear father of Stephen, Hazel and William.

Beloved son of the late Stephen and Mary he is mourned by sisters Annette, Shirley and Deirdre, son-in-law of Marcella, brother-in-law of Margaret, Ann, Buddy, Paschal, Ger and the late Jim and William.

Sadly missed by his loving family, son-in-law Dan, daughter-in-law Mary Ellen, his adored grandchildren Liam, Emily, Sarah and Daniel, nephews, nieces, extended family, kind neighbours, colleagues and friends.

Reposing in Ballydehob Community Hall, Store Road, Ballydehob on Thursday, March 14 from 5 pm followed by prayers at 8 pm.

Reposing in St Finbarr’s Church, Chapel Street, Bantry on (Friday) March 15th from 11 am followed by Requiem Mass at 12noon.

Funeral after to the Abbey Cemetery, Bantry. Donations in lieu of flowers, if desired, to Cancer Connect, Main Street, Bantry or the Bantry Hospice Project, Newtown, Bantry or West Cork Palliative Care, c/o Bantry General Hospital.
Liam Brennan - Ballylinan

The death took place on Monday, March 11 of Liam Brennan of The Village, Ballylinan, and Urlingford and Fairview, Dublin

Following a short illness. Deeply regretted by his wife Mary, sons Billy and Patrick, daughters Caroline and Maria, grandchildren Liam, Sara, Cara, son-in-law Kieran, daughters-in-law Sharon and Sharleen, brother Jim, sister Kitty, family and friends. 

Reposing at his home from 4pm to 7pm only on Wednesday. Removal to Ballylynan Church on Thursday, for Requiem Mass at 11am followed by burial in the adjoining cemetery.

John Ging - Portlaoise

The death took place on Monday, March 11 of John Ging of Mountrath Rd., Portlaoise. 

Peacefully at St. Vincent’s Hospital. John (Snr), dearly loved husband to Phyllis and loving father to John, Fergal, Marcus, Paddy, Aisling, Róisín and Ronan. Cherished granddad to his 15 grandchildren. Deeply regretted by his loving family, sisters Nan, Rose, and Teresa, brothers Paddy and Michael, brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, sons-in-law, daughters-in-law, nephews, nieces, neighbours, former colleagues in Laois County Council and the Fire Service.

Reposing at his family residence from 4pm on Tuesday with rosary at 8pm. Removal on Wednesday morning to arrive at SS Peter and Paul’s Church for 10am Requiem Mass. Interment will follow afterwards in SS Peter and Paul’s Cemetery, Portlaoise.

Kathleen Phelan - Castletown

The death took place on Monday, March 11 of Kathleen Phelan (née Gleeson) of Drumcondra, Dublin and formerly of Cuddagh, Castletown.

Peacefully, at Beneavin House Nursing Home Glasnevin. Kathleen, beloved wife of the late Paddy and mother to the late Gerard and Baby Phelan. Kathleen will be sadly missed by the Clarke, Phelan and Kelly families, relatives, neighbours, carers and friends.

Reposing at The Kirwan Funeral Home, Ballygall Road West, from 3pm Tuesday until removal at 4.30pm to Corpus Christi Church, Homefarm Rd, arriving at 5pm. Funeral on Wednesday, after 10am Requiem Mass, to Dardistown Cemetery. 

Sheila Cash - Castletown

The sudden death of baby Sheila Cash, Dangenroe, Castletown took place on Sunday, March 10. Reposing at her residence on  Tuesday from 7pm. Removal to the Church of St. Edmunds, Castletown on Wednesday for Funeral Mass at 11am. Burial afterwards in Clonoghill Cemetery, Birr.

Precious daughter of Samantha and Keith Cash, adored baby sister of Kelsea, Amanda and Annaliz, her loving great-grandmother, nannys and grandad, uncles, aunts, cousins, God parents and extended family.

Mary Tynan - Portlaoise

The death took place on Sunday, March 10 of Mary Tynan (née Lalor) of Clontyglass, Portlaoise. 

Peacefully, at the Regional Hospital Portlaoise (retired general nurse). Beloved wife of the late Donal. Deeply regretted by her loving family Declan, Geraldine, Adrian and Caroline, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, cousins, extended family relatives, neighbours and many friends.

Reposing in the Chapel of Rest at the Regional Hospital Portlaoise from 5pm Monday evening. Removal at 6.15pm to St. Fintan’s Church, Ballyfin, arriving at 7pm. Requiem Mass on Tuesday morning at 11am. Burial afterwards in St. Fintan’s Cemetery, Ballyfin.

Wayne Farrell - Portarlington

The death took place on Sunday, March 9 of Wayne Farrell, late of Portarlington and Monksfield, Clondalkin. Beloved son of Charlie and Marjorie, loving brother of Charles, Darren and Dean. Sadly, missed by his heartbroken parents, brothers, Godson Ryan, nephews Daire, Jamie and Hudson, nieces Destiny and Kayley, aunts, uncles, cousins, extended family and many friends.

Reposing at his brother Charles' home on Tuesday from 4pm. Removal on Thursday morning to the Church of the Assumption, Ballyfermot arriving for 10am Mass. Funeral afterwards to Palmerstown Cemetery. 

Noel Fitzpatrick - Clara and Clonaslee

The death took place on Saturday, March 9 of Noel Fitzpatrick of 20 The Green, Clara, Offaly and formerly of Graigafulla, Clonaslee. 

Suddenly, at The Midland Regional Hospital, Tullamore. Predeceased by his father Sean. Deeply regretted by his loving wife Marian, sons Alan and Darren, daughter Lisa, daughter in law Stacey, granddaughter Emily, Darren's partner Ciara, mother Phyllis, brothers Dermot and Aidan, sisters Linda, Helen, Cora, Yvonne, Caroline and Aisling, mother in law, brothers in law, sisters in law, nephews, nieces, relatives and friends.

Reposing at his home at 20 The Green, Clara on Wednesday from 2pm until rosary at 9pm. Removal on Thursday morning to St. Brigid's Church, Clara arriving for Requiem Mass at 11am. Burial afterwards in the monastery cemetery, Clara.
