Funeral details for Laois man who drowned tragically in Spain

The remains of a Portarlington man who died in a drowning accident in Spain return to Ireland this week so that his family friends and community can say a final farwell,

Shane O'Neill, Church View, Portarlington died on December 12 on the island of Gran Canaria while on a winter break with friends.

His passing as shocked not just family and friends but also the community of Portarlington where he contributed much time to the good of his community in his capacity as volunteer with the Portarlington Lions Club.

His remains will repeose at his residence (eircode R32 AV90) on Thursday, December 22 from 3pm until 8pm. Removal will follow the following day to St Michael's Church Portarlington for Funeral Service at 12 noon. A family Cremation Service to take place later. House Private on Friday morning, please.

The deceased is sadly missed by his loving wife Martina, family Jack, Cian and Eimhin, father Hugh, mother Trudy, sister Eimear, brother Darragh, parents-in-law Charlie and Louise, aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, extended family, neighbours and friends.

He is also missed by the many people he volunteered with in the Port Lions Club who will form a guard of honour in his memory.
