Refugee with fake French passport arrested

A refugee residing at the direct provision centre in the former Montague Hotel has been arrested after the gardaí discovered he had a fake passport.

The refugee, a man in his late 20s originally from the Congo, was arrested on January 6 after being stopped on routine garda patrol and found to have a fake French passport.

He is due to appear before Portlaoise District Court this Thursday, January 12.
