Laois bound motorists on their way to the National Ploughing Championships are being advised to turn off their Sat Navs and instead follow the signs to the venue near Portlaoise and Stradbally.

Almost 300,000 people are expected to attend the three day event in Ratheniska next Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday, September 20 to 22.

The Laois Offaly Garda Division are advising everyone driving to Laois of the following:

  • Identify and follow the traffic management plan for your best route to the event.
  • Follow event signage (Route and carparks)
  • Do not follow directions from Sat Nav devices.
  • Follow the directions of Gardaí and stewards.
  • If you have a vehicle pass make sure it is clearly displayed on the front window.
  • Do not bring valuable items to the event or leave them unattended in vehicles.

With such large crowds anticipated, Gardai are advising all those travelling to the event to allow additional journey time and to follow directional signage and instructions of Gardaí along the routes.
