Laois County Council County Hall in Portlaoise.

Council representatives are going to visit a Laois school that has no public lighting.

Cllr Aidan Mullins requested the council take action at Barrowhouse National School.

He tabled a motion in relation to the school at the latest meeting of Portarlington Graiguecullen  Municipal District in the council's headquarters in Portlaoise.

Cllr Mullins asked  “that Laois County Council install public lights outside Barrowhouse National School.”

Senior Engineer at the Roads Department, Paul McLoughlin’s response was read at the meeting by Senior Executive Engineer  Philip McVeigh.

“Road Design Public Lighting staff will arrange to meet Councillor Mullins at the National School in order to establish the lighting requirements at the location,” Mr McLoughlin wrote.

Cllr Mullins said there was only one light at the schoolyard which had been erected by the school.

“There is no public lighting outside the school itself,” he remarked.

Cllr Ashling Moran said she was in total agreement with the motion. Cllr Padraig Fleming said he too wanted to agree with the motion.

“Hopefully that issue will be resolved,” he said.
