Mountmellick Community School was transformed into a ‘mini Electric Picnic’ to remember a pupil Eoin Coss who died and raise money for cancer support in his memory.
Mountmellick Community School had a timetable with a difference on Friday, March 31, including live music in the study hall, silent discos and a teacher karaoke. The event was the culmination of a week of fundraising for the Irish Cancer Society, in memory of young student Eoin Coss who died last December, and would have celebrated his 15th birthday on St Patrick’s Day.
Teachers sacrificed themselves to being humiliated with egg challenges, dressing up in wedding dresses, drag makeup and getting waxed and dyed all for a great cause. Principal Larry Curtin had to wear a Kilkenny jersey.
The school also held a sponsored walk and a street bucket collection, raising €10,000 before the week even ended, with a higher total yet to be confirmed.
