Six new classrooms approved for Laois primary school

Multiple new classrooms have been approved to be built at a Laois national school.

Scoil Phádraig Naofa Boys national school in Mountmellick is set for a much needed expansion.

The Minister for Education Norma Foley has approved a project to go to tender to seek contractors to carry it out.

It is to get three new mainstream classrooms; three resource rooms and 1 home-school liaison room.

The school is in a 51 year old building, and teaches some 230 boys. 

The town's schools have DEIS disadvantaged status which qualifies them for extra educational supports.

Sean Fleming TD, Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs welcomed what he says are "major works" approved to go to tender.

"I am pleased with the good news that works have been approved by the Minister for Education, Norma Foley TD.

"Following my discussions with the Minister, I am pleased that this project has been approved to go to tender immediately. I look forward to an early successful tender process and construction works commencing as soon as possible.

"This is welcome news for families, students, staff and the entire school community. Finally, I want to compliment the school management and all those involved for all their work in progressing this very important education project in Mountmellick," the Laois Minister said.
