A Laois school will give racism the boot it deserves, with a big week of activities.

Portlaoise Educate Together National School is organising a week-long event from February 19 to 23 to promote the National Action Plan Against Racism.

Last year, the equality based, co-education school was awarded funding to carry out activities that combat racism and foster racial equality and community cohesion.

The theme will be "Being Together", a shared journey to racial equality.

The school is working with Laois Africa Support Group, the Immigration Council of Ireland and Black and Irish to create and deliver equality-based and anti-racist events.

These include a panel discussion on combating racism with speakers, Cllr Uruemu Adejinmi from Longford Municipal District, Lliang Feng, a parent of children in Portlaoise ETNS and local businesswoman, and Bolaji Adeyanju, Founder of Laois Africa Support Group.

The discussion will be facilitated by Briana Fitzsimons, Author, Teacher, Director of Education @black_andirish, EDI/ABAR Specialist.

Other exciting events include a Cuisine Day, recipe book launch, school competition, dance classes and talks for parents.

“This “Being Together-Against Racism” project is supported by the Ireland Against Racism Fund”
