Irish workers union give amazing gift of new bus to Laois special school

The Laois special needs school who have been fighting to get their new building started, have just been given a well deserved and very generous gift.

The Communications Workers Union Ireland have donated a brand new special needs school bus to Kolbe Special School.

Kolbe school has described it as the "best news ever".

They received the keys on the Friday before the St Brigids Bank Holiday weekend, sharing their joyful thanks and photos.

"BEST NEWS EVER! We are absolutely thrilled to be able to let you all know that we have received a new school bus! We cannot thank Communications Workers Union Ireland enough for this unbelievable donation.

"THANK YOU SO SO MUCH from everyone in the whole Kolbe Community!  We cannot wait to be able to get out and about again, this is such a boost for our school," they said.

The union represents the postal, telecommunications and call centre sectors.

Meanwhile ESB Networks began the final works to move powerlines safely underground this week, after delays.

Construction of a new school is promised to start in March according to Kolbe Principal Orlagh Mahon.

The school which teaches and nurses 44 children with severe to profound special needs, is waiting 20 years to get out of cold prefabs and into a promised special needs building. Every other school in Portlaoise has been given a new building in the meantime.

Local people can give them a digout too, at a Portlaoise Table Quiz.

Laois Leeds United Members Club is holding a Table Quiz in aid of the school on Friday, February 9 at 8.30pm.

The venue is Aunty Nora's in Peig's Bar on Main Street Portlaoise. Table of four is €40.
