Heywood Community School is thrilled with the outstanding achievements of our Leaving Certificate students in the 2024 examinations.

The principal of the school near Ballinakill Eamon Jackman was impressed with what was achieved across the student body.

“Our students have once again demonstrated exceptional dedication, resilience, and academic excellence, with this year's result reflecting their hard work and commitment over the past six years. MORE BELOW PICTURE.

“We are very proud of each student. Their success is a testament not only to their individual efforts but also to the support and encouragement provided by our dedicated teaching staff, supportive parents, and the wider Heywood community. Our teachers have gone above and beyond to provide a learning environment that nurtures each student's potential, even in the face of challenges which have unfolded during their time here including the Covid upheaval.

“The results this year have been remarkable, with many students achieving top grades across a wide range of subjects. These achievements will open doors to further education and career opportunities, and we are confident that our students will continue to excel in whatever paths they choose to pursue,” he said. While delighted for the Ballyroan student Emma Carney who scored top marks in the exam, Mr Jackman highlighted other Heywood students.

“Whilst headlines may go to Emma Carney who received seven H1s along with Amy Lacey and Laragh Wilkenson who achieved an almost similar score, it is the many students who managed to achieve and supersede our expectations that we are celebrating today. It is also fantastic to see that almost all of these managed to achieve excellent scores and combine it with their sporting or extracurricular interests,” he said.

Mr Jackman said he took great satisfaction in chatting to many of the students on the morning of the results when they visited the school. He was impressed by what he heard. MORE BELOW PICTURE.

“Many have already secured employment or are accessing apprenticeships with local employers because of a careers fair held in the school in 6th year. With the changing employment landscape and demand in certain sectors, students are being very strategic in their career choice and not merely following the media driven route of 3rd level without assessing if it best suits their talents. I think they are to be commended for this,” he said. MORE BELOW PICTURE

He concluded: “On behalf of the entire school, I extend my heartfelt congratulations to all our Leaving Certificate students. We celebrate your success and look forward to hearing about the great things they will accomplish in the future”.
