The 'Battle of Wits' quiz has finally returned after five years.
The quiz is a collaboration with Laois, Offaly, Westmeath and Longford Libraries and last took place in 2019. The competition has seen TY classes from all four counties taking part. Five Laois schools battle it out for a place in the county final in Portlaoise Library on Thursday November 14. To see more pictures, click NEXT or ARROW. More on the story below.

The top 2 teams from each county will go forward to the Regional Final, with 8 teams participating all together to compete for the perpetual trophy on this date.
The first round has seen TY classes compete within their own school. First, second and third place teams from each school will go on to the county final.
This year the Regional Final will take place in Athlone on Thursday, 5th December 2024.
To date the competition has only seen one tie breaker question, which happened within Scoil Chriost Ri.
Each member of the 1st place teams of the schools round received a €15 book token.
The Laois County Final will be on Thurs, 14th Nov in Portlaoise Library at 5pm. The County Final will be contested by the winners from each of the 5 participating secondary school in Laois, with the first and second place teams going through to Athlone.
The winners of the county final will receive a Battle of Wits plaque while 2nd and 3rd place will receive medals.
The overall winners of the Regional final will receive a perpetual trophy which will have the school name engraved on it and there will be medals for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place.
In 2019 the cup was won by Offaly with Colaiste Choilm Tullamore taking 1st place. Laois have yet to win a final.
