Tractors and trucks both huge and toy sized are welcomed to a big Laois fundraiser coming up.

St Colman's National School parents council in Stradbally are organising a Tractor & Truck Run on Sunday, February 2, on the St Brigid's Bank Holiday weekend.

Ahead of the adult sized run, which will leave at 1.30 to travel to Timahoe and back, they will hold a lovely children's tractor and truck run, with a prize draw for the best kitted out vehicle.

It is the second such run in aid of St Colman's NS but the first one was five years ago.

The council launched the run along with St Colman's principal Brian Lynch this week.

Gary Oxley is a member of the parents council and told the Leinster Express / Laois Live why they are reviving it.

"We are fundraising for equipment and amenities at the school. We put in an astroturf pitch which clubs in Stradbally can use as well. We want to develop it further.

"We have pupils that come from Vicarstown, Portlaoise and Timahoe as well as Stradbally. We'd like to see a big turnout on the day, to support the kids in the local community and provide them with the best amenities we can.

It's sure to be a fun day from start to finish," Gary said.

The fee for the big tractors and trucks is €20 but any donations are welcomed.

Registration opens at 12 noon, at Stradbally Town and Country on the Main Street.

The kids tractor run and raffle takes place first with the main event getting underway at 1.30pm. Refreshments on the day.
