Laois residents raise concerns over traffic speed
Laois housing estate residents are asking the council to install a speed ramp, to protect their children walking to school.
Scoil Eoin Phoil II with some 170 pupils is in Ballyroan.
Residents of the nearby Gleann na Glaise housing estate enlisted Cllr Barry Walsh of the Portlaoise Municipal District to request safety measures from Laois County Council.
He tabled a motion to their March 2026 meeting, asking for a ramp and road safety signs.
"A lot of kids are walking to school. Residents are concerned at how fast traffic is driving around the estate," he said.

Cllr John Joe Fennelly seconded and said other councillors also had received a request from the secretary.
In reply, the district officials will meet Cllr Walsh onsite to examine the location suggested for signs and ramps.
