Poet Helen Ivory came to Mountrath Community School recently to give a reading and meet students.

The English poet and artist, in Laois as part of the Leaves Literary Festival, read her poetry, told the students about herself, and advised them on creative writing.

”Her visit went really well. The students loved the reading, she brought them from the page to performance, entertaining and igniting their imagination,” said teacher Joan Hallessy.

“I learned so much about composing lyrics and short stories,” said Ellen Coughlan.

“She was so inspiring,” said Jack Cuddy.
