Tips on how to help teens under mental stress
With exams approaching, stress levels are rising fast among Laois teenagers and their families, but some handy tips can be found at a free course running tonight.
Parents can get practical advice on supporting all teenagers through mentally challenging times, at a 90 minute workshop in Laois Education Centre from 7pm to 8.30pm.
It is aimed at parents, caregivers, guardians of post-primary pupils, and indeed any adult, who is interested or concerned about young peoples’ mental health.
The evening will outline key issues impacting on the mental wellbeing of young people, give tips on boosting positive mental health, and the warning signs that a young person may be struggling with their mental health.
It runs tonight Tuesday May 22, from 7 to 8.30pm. The facilitator is Patricia White, Post- Primary Teacher & Mental Health Trained Facilitator.
There is a second course for parents and carers of younger children.
A workshop aimed at supporting the mental health of primary pupils takes place at the same venue, Laois Education Centre, Block Road, Portlaoise, next Monday night May 28 at 7pm.
Also 90 minutes long, it will offer a better understanding of mental health and the key issues impacting on the mental health of children.
Participants will be shown how to promote positive mental health in children, learn the value of listening as a way of supporting them, and learn about other resources available.
The facilitator will be Frankie Andrews a primary teacher and Mental Health trained facilitator
