Big Laois soccer club plans new development

One of the biggest soccer clubs in Laois has announced plans for expansion of its grounds.

Portlaoise AFC has lodged a planning application with Laois County Council for an astroturf pitch and floodlights.

The development will consist of permission for an Astro Turf pitch, a steel fence of 2.4m in height, lighting and all associated works, at their grounds on Rossleighan Park, Rossleighan, Portlaoise, R32 V092.

The new pitch is planned on a greenfield site to the left of their clubhouse. It would be the fourth pitch at the grounds, not including a smaller 7-a-side pitch.

"The club have been developing their grounds for the last number of years and playing numbers have increased dramatically. The Astro Turf pitch with full lighting will allow training during winter months for the youth of the area and games during adverse weather conditions," the application states.

The planning decision is due in early December.
