Laois lotto joy as Portlaoise soccer club winner scoops €5,300 jackpot

A local man is celebrating in style after winning the top prize in the Portlaoise AFC weekly lotto draw.

Brendan Deevy was revealed as the lucky winner of the €5,300 jackpot in the club’s Week 23 draw, held on Tuesday, June 10. The popular community lotto, which supports the running of the local soccer club, hadn't been won since Patsy Dunne won the jackpot in July 2024.

In addition to the jackpot, several other participants took home prizes. Katie Reidy, through Kevin Murphy, claimed the €100 prize. A number of €20 winners were also announced; John O’Reilly (c/o Maura Brophy), Kevin Murphy (c/o Kevin Murphy), Emylin O’Reilly (c/o Pat Horan), Gerry O’Malley (c/o David Hughes), Sadie Conroy (c/o Geraldine Delaney) and John Joe Ging (c/o John Joe Ging). The Seller’s Prize was awarded to Maura Brophy, while Pat Whelan secured the Pony Prize. The jackpot now resets to €1,000 for the next draw.

Portlaoise AFC thanked all who continue to support the lotto, which plays a vital role in funding local soccer activities, and encouraged players to enter again for their chance at next week’s draw.
