Stradbally Town AFC held the first Robbie Moore Memorial Soccer Match on Sunday, marking the first anniversary of the passing of lifelong player and club member, Robbie Moore. Robbie, who dedicated much of his life to the club, sadly passed away on September 12, 2024, at just 42 years of age after a two-year battle with cancer. The memorial fixture saw Stradbally take on Portlaoise AFC at the club’s new grounds on Charter Road. Despite heavy rain, a large crowd gathered to honour Robbie’s memory in what became a true community and family event, with bouncing castles and a coffee van on site. On the pitch, Stradbally ran out 6-2 winners, with goals coming from Fionn McEvoy (2), Liam Clancy (2), and Eoin Buggie (2). At full-time, Robbie’s father, John Moore, and his daughter, Harpur, presented the memorial cup to Stradbally captain Sean Devoy. Stradbally Town AFC expressed their gratitude to all who contributed to making the day special: “We’d like to thank Portlaoise AFC for playing their part on the day to mark the occasion, Raffal the Referee, Michael Delaney for his coffee van and Paddy Robbins of Bfor Bounce for providing the bouncing castles.” The club said the memorial match will serve as a lasting tribute to Robbie, ensuring his passion for football and his memory live on within the Stradbally community. Photographer Denis Byrne went along for the Leinster Express/Laois Live with photos 6,7,8 & 9 supplied by the club.
