Parents First is celebrating its 23rd anniversary of dedicated local service, and are recruiting a part-time Assistant Coordinator to help them in their mission to support parents and families with young children across Laois and Offaly.
Parents across both counties have benefitted greatly from the service since 2001, which is delivered through regular home visits and support groups in local community settings. By joining the team as an Assistant Coordinator (based in Laois and Offaly), you could contribute to a vital service, building the confidence of families and parents with young children.
One parent who availed of the service could not recommend it enough, admitting that without their services, "I don’t know where I would have been when my daughter was born. She was my first baby and I wasn’t from the area, I had no family living nearby. I was feeling overwhelmed and anxious about the smallest of things."
The relieved parent went on to show her appreciation for the services, saying "I decided to meet her and it was the best decision I ever made, she was a mum just like myself so she understood what I was going through. She came to see me every week and she was my lifeline, then she suggested that I go to a group that did baby massage, which changed my life again because I met lots of other mothers there, all going through similar stuff. My little girl is now in playschool and is thriving."
Parents First provides support for parents when their children are young, as early as in pregnancy. The voluntary organisation currently recruiting is based in the local community, and the programme is delivered by trained and experienced home visitors. As Parents First manager, Dolores Wrafter explains, "we put parents first and it is through this trusted relationship with their home visitor that parents feel empowered and gain confidence and connectivity in the local area".
Parents First supports approximately 50 families at any given time across Laois and Offaly, and are planning to further expand their service for families in Laois.
