Next Friday marks the beginning of Open Week in Abbeyelix Golf Club for 2016.
The club is one of the oldest in Ireland with a great tradition of hospitality and comraderie.
This will be in evidence once again this year in the person of Captain P.J.Peacock and Lady Captain Martina Kilshaw who look forward to welcoming everyone to the club.
A varied programme of events have been planned to suit all tastes including singles, two ball competitions, fourballs, three person team events and different types of classics.
A glance over the Open Week calendar which accompanies this article will indicate the tremendous range of competitions available.

The course staff under the direction of greenkeeper David Greene have been working dilligently to ensure that the course is in pristine condition for Open Week.
They have been greatly helped by the tremendous work being carried out by the many volunteers who spend hours on end helping to enhance the course in many ways.
Their work is very much appreciated by all in the club.
Abbeyleix Golf Club is a parklands course with many spinneys and mature trees defining the boundaries of each hole.
There are plenty of bunkers and water features ready to penalise the errant shot.
It is however a very natural fair course which will test the ability of all catagory of player.
The greens are in fantastic condition, some with tiers which necessitate accurate shots to green and putts with the right amount of pace.
The 12th hole where a precise tee shot is crucial presents another challenge with the large tree guarding the edge of the green followed by a three tiered green.
This brings the golfer to the highest point on the course with views across the landscape to the Slieve Bloom Mountains.
The future of the club is guaranteed by the vibrant Junior/Juvenile section of the club.
The final day of Open Week (17th.) is also the Junior/Juvenile competition day.
The club would like to welcome all younger visitors on this day and hope that they enjoy their day in Abbeyleix.
Presentations will be held on Sunday 10th., Wednesday 13th., and Sunday 17th. July at 9.30 pm.
The club appreciate the great support received from our many sponsors and appeal to everyone to support our sponsors in their business.
All sponsors are invited to presentations and prize winners are expected to attend to show courtesy and appreciation to them.
A social night is planned for Saturday, July 16 with a BBQ and music for great value at €10!
In conjunction with open week, there is also a chance to win some money with the British Open prediction competition.
A prize fund of €800 is certainly enticing. One prediction is only €10 and three predictions for €20.
Cards are distributed to members and can be purchased at the bar or in the office.
Full catering facilities are available all week, Martin in the restaurant and P.J.and bar staff will be on hand to welcome everyone and attend to their needs.
President Fr. Seán Conlon and Lady President Geraldine Murphy along with the captains and officers extend a hearty welcome to all who visit our club for open week.
