Portlaoise Cuisle Centre was founded in 2004. The Centre provides a warm, safe and welcoming environment for people diagnosed with cancer from Laois and surrounding counties and their families affected by it. The Centre is a charity and all services are free to patients and their families.

Cuisle is funded by voluntary donations and fundraising events organised by the public. It has also received funding from Laois Cancer Research, Le Ceile and Laois Hospice.

The Centre is run by a voluntary Board of Trustees who govern the overall operation of the Centre and do not receive remuneration or expenses.

The Heath Golf Club recently hosted a fundraising event in aid of the centre. A total of 180 people took part and the event raised €4,712 for the Cuisle Centre.

Fundraising Organiser Ann Cashen was very appreciative of all the help and support she received for the event, saying afterwards, “Thank you to The Heath Golf Club for choosing the Cuisle Cancer Support Centre as their chosen charity for the past four years, and for their continued support.

“Thanks to Quinns for very generously sponsoring the prizes on the day and for the warm welcome received from Kathleen Quinn and her family on our visit to Baltinglass.”

She also thanked Kieran Hosey, who on behalf of Quinns presented the prizes on the night. Golfers from The Heath and surrounding clubs who participated on the day and people who were unable to play golf but gave donations and prizes.

Captain Roisin Adams and PJ O’Gorman, Cuisle Chairperson of The Board of Directors, also thanked everyone who helped out in any way in making this day a very special event.
