Stradbally have been unable to repeat the epic display that saw them defeat Portlaoise in the Laois County Football Final.

The Laois club travelled to Longford to take on Mullinalaghta St Columba’s, who were making a first appearance in the Leinster Club Senior Football Championship.

Stradballly led at the break after after scoring two goals through Conor Delaney and a Gary Comerford penalty, late in the first half.

But that was was as good as it got for the Laois champs.

Stradbally's hopes took a big hit when midfielder Darren Maher was sent off early in the second half.

It could have been worse on the scoreboard for Stradbally with their opponents registering 12 wides compared to two for the Laois team.
