Leinster Community Games titles for Port and The Heath

THE Leinster Community Games Finals took place in Carlow last weekend.

THE Leinster Community Games Finals took place in Carlow last weekend.

There were some great displays from the Laois competitors with Portarlington winning the U-11 Tag Rugby and The Heath boys and girls doing a double in rounders.

Portarlington U-11 Tag rugby team are Leinster Champions after beating Killoe of Longford in the semi-final 11-9 and then beating St. Brigids of Kildare 10-4 in a very entertaining and fast final.

The Heath’s Girls U-13 Rounders team are Leinster champions after beating Moynalty of Meath 21-4 in the semi-final and then beating Piercestown/Murrintown of Wexford 12-11 in a very tight final. The Heath’s Boys U-13 Rounders team are Leinster champions after beating Johnstown/Navan of Meath 30-16 in the semi and then they also defeated Piercestown/Murrintown of Wexford in a close final on a score of 16-15.

The Heath’s Girls and Boys U-15 both lost out in their finals by a single score. This was a very disappointing result for the boys and girls but a great performance was put in by all the competitors.

In Basketball U-11 mixed, the Emo/Rath team lost heir semi-final by a single basket in extra time, going down 11-12 to Kilbride of Meath. Also in Basketball, the Clonaslee/Rosenallis team in the Boys U-13 lost their semi-final 23-16 to Duleek of Meath.

In Hardcourt Tennis, the Ballyroan mixed U-13 team won their semi-final 2-1 against Cushinstown of Meath but lost their final 3-0 to Twomilehouse from Kildare.

In the Boys U-12 soccer the Emo/Rath team won their semi-final 4-3 against Summerhill from Meath before going down 6-0 to a very strong Bagnalstown (Carlow) team in the final.

The Tag Rugby team from Portarlington & the Heath Rounders U-13 Boys and Girls will represent Laois in the National Finals in Athlone in August.
