The team of Peter Guing, Jimmy O’Grady and Declan Farrell registered a competition record score of 143 in defeating Shamrocks by 30 points in the live grand final at the Thatch at Killenard, County Laois.
At the half time break the finalists had been locked at 53 points each with Edenderry not pulling away until the closing stages. Aided by an excellent individual round from Peter Guing they opened up a 113 to 89 lead into the final round and sealed the victory in the closing team six mark questions.
Shamrocks, represented by Carthage Kearney, Brian Kearney and Aidan Grennan, had knocked out Drumcullen, Courtwood and Clara on their way to the decider.
Edenderry received a cheque for €1,000, which was presented by Midlands 103’s Managing Director Albert Fitzgerald and Brian Dunne from co-sponsors Excel Drain Cleaning Limited, while Shamrocks got €500 as beaten finalists.
Both finalists and semi finalists Portlaoise and Clara were awarded trophies from co-sponsor Gerry Browne Jewellers Trophy Centre in Portlaoise.
