There was mixed fortunes for Laois handballers after last week’s round of Leinster championship fixtures.
In the Junior grade both Tómas Lennon and Peter Whelan failed to advance to the quarter-finals after they were defeated by Ciaran Neary of Kilkenny and Darren O’Toole of Wexford respectively.
Tómas lost his game on a scoreline of 21-12 21-12. Similarly, Peter was defeated in two games going down 21-4 21-13.
In Borris last Wednesday night, Joe Brennan edged a very exciting Golden Masters quarter-final encounter against Richie Culleton of Wexford 21-15 21-16.
The Monavea handballer has been in good form this year having already claimed victory in the first round of the Junior B doubles with his playing partner Michael Donovan the previous week. In a competitive game, Joe’s superior fitness and ability to win the crucial aces saw him over the finishing line.
Joe now progresses to the semi-finals where he will face either Pat Funchion of Kilkenny or Martin McKenna of Dublin.
