Mountmellick and The Rock GAA clubs launched their Fight Night fundraiser last Friday night, as anticipation builds ahead of the event on November 19.
There will be 11 fights in total as part of the fundraiser, with two of those bouts provided by Portlaoise Boxing Club, whose coaches Pat Ryan and Pat Reddin have been helping the players from both clubs prepare for the big day.
The launch last Friday night in Dempsey’s Bar was attended by members of both clubs, as well as McConville’s Super Valu, who are the main sponsors of the event. MC’s on the night were Ann Storey and Teddy O’Shea, but the MC for the big event is Jack Nolan, who will have a job on his hands keeping everything in order as these to local rivals don their gloves and singlets on the night.
The Rock GAA clubhouse will host the Fight Night on November 19, with doors open at 8pm and tickets costing €20. As well as the 11 fights scheduled to take place, there will also be a disco afterwards with DJ Niall Dunne. Contact committee members for more information, and see next week’s Leinster Express for a preview of the night.
