Members of Laois Girevoy CLub recently competed at the All Ireland Kettlebell Lifting Federation ‘Cup of Ireland’ hosted by Wexford Kettlebell Club. The competitors came from all over Ireland for this 10 minute event.
Kevin Dunne took part in the Men’s Under 73kg biathlon event using two, 20kg bells. This was Kevin’s first time to compete in a 10 minute biathlon event. The biathlon is two events, snatch and jerk, and both are 10 minute events. Kevin achieved his rank and took home gold.
Geraldine Lanigan and Andrea Sutton both competed in the snatch event using 12kg bells. Geraldine did a fantastic set, hitting well beyond the numbers she needed hit rank and secured her place on the Irish team travelling to Hamburg for the World Championships in November. Andrea took home gold in her category and also achieved rank.
On day 2 Jane Graham competed in the Ladies Longcycle event using 12kg bell . Jane also achieved rank and took home gold.
Faisal Khalid competed in the Mens Longcycle event using two, 16kg bells. This was Faisal’s first 10 minute competition and he also took home gold.
Ireland have over 30 lifters travelling to Hamburg for the world championships to compete in amateur, professional and veteran categories. Laois Kettlebell Club wishes all athletes the very best of luck , especially to our own ‘Super Woman’ Geraldine Lanigan.
Laois Kettlebell club continues to hold classes every Monday and Wednesday at 6pm and 7pm in Max Fitness, Portlaoise. Anyone interested in taking up this fantastic sport is welcome to come along and join in. Classes are only €5 and there is no joining fee.
