Stradbally
The Council has sent a letter to the Minister for Health enquiring about plans for a Health Centre in Stradbally.
It follows a motion by Fine Gael Cllr Vivienne Phelan. She asked “That Laois County Council will write to the Minister for Health, Jennifer Carroll MacNeill, to ask what are the future plans for Stradbally Health Centre and if the centre will be considered for investment under the HSE Capital Plan 2026.”
Cllr Phelan said “what is going on on our side of the county is very slack compared to the other side of the county.”
She said Stradbally now has three estates for older people and people with a disability. “I think it is wrong that people living in our area have to travel for appointments if they could be provided locally.” She told the meeting that a Parliamentary Question was also being put to the Minister on the subject.
Fianna Fail Cllr Paschal McEvoy seconded the motion and said he fully agreed with Cllr Phelan given the growing population of Stradbally.
“There is over 100 extra houses in it in the last three or four years so services have to come,” he remarked.
Council Administrator Therese Kelly said a “letter will issue to the HSE after this MD Meeting.”
