Laois County Council received just two complaints in relation to Electric Picnic in 2024.
The festival, which celebrated two decades in Laois last year, generated very few complaints for Laois County Council considering it attracted 75,000 people to Stradbally over the weekend of August 16 to 18, 2024.
Under the Freedom of Information Act, the Leinster Express/Laois Live requested details of complaints received by Laois County Council in relation to the Electric Picnic 2024.
Laois County Council checked the records of their Planning, Roads, Environment, Arts Department, Civil Defence, Fire and Rescue Service and the Office of the Chief Executive for complaints relating to the festival.
The search yielded just two complaints and both related to litter found near the site after the event had ended.
On August 20, 2024 a complaint was lodged with the Environment section of Laois County Council. “Caller indicates that there is a large amount of litter all the way along the roadside of the red car park of EP. Litter pick was done in the car park but not the roadside,” the Council noted.
“Cleaning crews are gone. Debris everywhere and blowing around road number L7833-Abbeyleix road out of Stradbally,” they said.
A second complaint was made on August 27, 2024. It was recorded by the Council as a fly tipping complaint and consisted of a photograph or what appears to be an abandoned cart containing rubbish. The location was described as Ratheniska/Stradbally.

The Council stated that submissions were made to the Council prior to the event as part of the planning application process.
This year’s sold out Electric Picnic will take place at the Cosby Estate in Stradbally on the weekend of August 29 to 31. The capacity for the 2025 festival is rising to 80,000, a massive increase from the 10,000 that attended the first Picnic which was a one day event in 2004.
